If you didn’t realize there’s a difference between snap-on dentures and all-on-4 implants, that’s okay. Not many people do! Plenty of tooth replacement options are quite similar, which can make it challenging to keep track of what’s what. Don’t worry, though. Your dentist (and this post) can help you figure out which restoration is best for you and your smile.
Keep reading for a short-and-sweet comparison between snap-on dentures and all-on-4 implants.
Snap-On Dentures
The main feature of snap-on dentures is that they’re removable. Your restoration will still be supported by dental implants, and you’ll be able to enjoy superior power and durability while you wear them. But you’ll also be able to take them out for routine cleanings.
To support this design, snap-on dentures come with an acrylic plate at the base. If you need an upper denture, this plate will partially cover the roof of your mouth, which can affect the way food tastes or have an impact on the way you speak. Generally, though, snap-on dentures are less expensive than all-on-4 implants, and many patients enjoy the convenience of being able to remove them whenever necessary.
All-On-4 Implants
All-on-4 implants also combine a denture and dental implants. However, this restoration is meant to stay fixed in place, and where snap-on dentures usually require six implants, all-on-4s only need – well, four. This makes them ideal for patients who have experienced jawbone loss.
Since you won’t be removing them, all-on-4 implants don’t have the same acrylic base that snap-on dentures do. Your sense of taste and ability to communicate clearly will be unaffected. You’ll also be able to brush and floss them like you would natural teeth. Just remember that these conveniences come with a slightly higher price tag!
Choosing the Right Restoration for You
Choosing the restoration that’s right for you is a very personal process. There’s no right or wrong answer; it will simply depend on your preferences and your budget. Fortunately, your dentist is ready and able to help guide your decision! During your consultation, don’t hesitate to voice any questions or concerns about your replacement teeth. They’ll take every detail into consideration and make sure you’re happy with your choice.
